WHAT IS A PEAR-SHAPED BODY

The pear body shape is the most common female body shape. Grab a mirror and take a look: If your hips and backside are wider than your shoulders, you're the lucky owner of a pear-shaped body. Pear-shaped bodies typically have a smaller bustline as well. Depending on your overall proportions, bustier pears may actually be an hourglass body style.
WHICH CELEBRITIES HAVE A PEAR-SHAPED BODY?
Beyoncé, Kim Kardashian, Christina Aguilera, Eva Longoria, Paris Hilton and Rihanna all have pear-shaped bodies. Yep, these gals tend to be both hippy and hip!
STYLISTS' SECRETS: DRESSING A PEAR-SHAPED BODY
Style challenges include finding clothing items that fit both your waist (tiny) and your hips (a bit wider). Dresses can be a challenge because slim-cut fashion may not flare enough to accommodate the bottom half of your pear-shaped body, while remaining tailored to the top half of your body.
Speaking of tailored, find a good tailor and keep him or her on speed dial. Fashions that don't fit quite right can quickly be remedied with a dart here and a tuck there.
HOW TO DRESS A PEAR-SHAPED BODY
Focus attention upward. Pear-shaped women should focus attention on the upper half of their pear-shaped body by choosing slim, fitted tops, button-down shirts and cardigans.
Embellish around the neck. Shirts and dresses with embellished necklines naturally draw the eye upward toward the slimmest part of a pear-shaped body.
Layer it up. Layering garments can balance a pear-shaped body by adding visual interest to the top half of the body.
Go for an A. A-line dress and tops emphasize the upper body while slimming wider hips characteristic of a pear-shaped body.
Wide is good. Keep the hems of pants, skirts and dresses wide to visually balance a pear-shaped body. Pointy-toed shoes with wide-hemmed pants will elongate your legs.
Get a little structure. Structured pants are a great fit, especially those that skim the hips and thighs of a pear-shaped body. Avoid flashy embellishments like cargo pants, funky pockets or embroidery.

How to Choose the Perfect Homecoming Dress

With homecoming just around the corner, high school students around Bucks County are busy shopping for the perfect homecoming dress. Not every dress is right for every girl, though. Consider each of the following details of the dress to ensure you look your best on homecoming night:

Color
Since homecoming dances occur in the Fall, you’ll be sure to see your classmates in earthy colors, such as olive and brown. These shades complement most skin tones, so they are often a safe bet. To ensure you stand out from the crowd at your homecoming dance, choose a homecoming dress with a bright color or bold pattern, like this La Femme dress. Neon shades, such as hot pink and fluorescent blue, are sure to make a statement, as well.

Neckline
Choose a neckline based on your body type. Girls with a larger frame might opt for v-necks, scoop-necks or sweetheart necklines. These shapes create the impression of a longer vertical line, which makes fuller-figured girls look taller and thinner. Girls with a smaller frame should look for necklines that will visually widen them, like a classic halter or a crew neck style. For those of you with an average build, consider the look of your neck, shoulders and bust. Draw attention away from square shoulders by choosing a homecoming dress with a scoop, square or v-neck, like this Tony Bowls Homecoming dress. Disguise a too-small or too-large bust, opt for a Sabrina neckline, which softly curves from one shoulder to the other.

Length
Remember, homecoming is not as formal an event as prom, so consider going with a shorter dress. A skirt that hits your leg at mid-thigh tends to be flattering for all body types, like this Faviana Homecoming Dress. First, though, consult your high school’s dress code before opting for a short dress. For more conservative schools, opt for a knee-length cocktail dress.

Skirt

In order to best flatter your figure, you must choose a dress with the right silhouette. Slender girls can create the illusion of curves with a dress that cinches at the waistline and bells out, like this Tony Bowls Homecoming Dress. To disguise a pear-shaped body that is smaller on top and fuller down below, opt for dresses with a fitted waistline and an A-line skirt. Petite girls should avoid fuller silhouettes, as they can overwhelm small frames.

How to Shape Up For Your Wedding Day

If you’re newly engaged, you know the wedding day is ALL about the bride! Looking to shape up for your wedding? We have some great workout tips on how to look absolutely fabulous in your gown! What you want: A sleek, smooth torso for even the slinkiest sheath.

The Twist
1. Stand with your feet hip-width apart and knees slightly bent. Imagine holding a ball in between your thighs. Squeeze your thigh muscles, then pull in your belly and tuck it under your pelvis (so you’re in a slight sitting position). Lace your fingers together and place your hands behind your head.

2. Keeping your chest high, slowly twist from side to side without moving your lower body, so that your upper body turns from facing left to facing right. Keep it slow — you won’t get the full benefit if you’re relying on momentum. Repeat 40 times. Yep, you heard us right — 40!

Standing Side Crunch
1. Stand in the same position as you did for the twist, with your abs tucked in and your toes facing front (but drop the imaginary ball!).

2. Lift your left knee toward your left arm bringing your elbow down to meet it. Hold, then return to the starting position. Repeat it on the right and do a total of 20 repetitions on each side.

What you want: Toned triceps, biceps, and pectorals to really strut your strapless stuff.

Bicep Curls
1. Standing with your feet hip-width apart and knees slightly bent, pull your tummy in and tuck your pelvis under. Hold a heavier pair of dumbbells down at your sides with your palms facing front.

2. Keeping your elbows at your sides, slowly curl the dumbbells toward your shoulders. Reverse direction and lower the dumbbells into starting position — avoid locking your elbows. Do 10 repetitions per set. Slow and steady wins the race here — you’ll get a bigger benefit from the exercise if you use concentrated, controlled movements. If you feel like you’re whipping the weights around to get them up, your dumbbells are too heavy. Downgrade to a smaller weight so you can move more comfortably.

Flat Dumbbell Fly
1. Lie down with your knees bent and your feet firmly planted shoulder-width apart. Stretch out your arms on the floor so your body makes a T. Grasp a dumbbell in each outstretched hand, keeping your elbows slightly bent. Keep your palms facing up towards the ceiling.

2. Slowly raise the weights upward in a rounded arc (as if you were hugging a tree!), gently touching the dumbbells together at the top above your body. Hold for a few seconds, then slowly lower the weights back to their starting positions. Do 10 repetitions per set.

Tricep Dips
1. Sit normally on a sturdy, nonwheeled chair. Place your hands on the front edge of the seat (fingertips facing front) and your feet on the floor, hip-width apart and a little bit ahead of you. Slowly slide your bottom off the seat of the chair, keeping your hands where there are.

2. Keeping your arms close to your body, bend your elbows until your upper arms are parallel to the floor, allowing your rear end to descend past the edge of the chair. Using your arms to lift you, reverse direction and push yourself back up to the point at which your arms are straight. Work up to 15 dips per set.

Choosing & Using Your Wedding Colors Like A Boss

A customer asked me about how to choose her wedding color-scheme on our Facebook page recently, so I thought I’d expand on what I was telling her in this blog. After all, we’re all about weddings here, so any way we can help is a pleasure!

There are several things to consider when choosing the colors for your wedding: hink about both of your favorite colors. Can you incorporate these, or shades of them? After all, they are your favorites, so you’ll definitely like them!

Does your venue have a color of its own, for instance wallpaper of a certain color? If so you will want to choose colors that do not clash, and preferably fit in with this.

Grab color swatches from the paint section of your local hardware store. They’re free, and can help you both decide at home.

Think of the ‘emotion’ of your wedding. Is it peaceful, fun, classy, or energetic? This will have a bearing on your choice. How Do I Use Color In My Day? If you have found the colors you like, then there are heaps of fun ways to incorporate color into your day.

Wedding Dress

Everyone knows that bridesmaid dresses can be certain colors, but have you considered adding color to your wedding dress? Don’t be too horrified at the idea! If you are a purist and can’t bear the idea of not having a white dress it’s OK, as many white wedding dresses have little pops of color these days, such as a sash, or decoration.

Bridesmaid Dresses

You can also co-ordinate your maids, as mentioned. The usual method is to choose bridesmaid dresses that are one of your main color picks, but in fact many brides these days are trying different, interesting, ways to mix things up a little.

How about: Same style dresses, same colors? Same style but different colors? Different styles of dresses in one color? Dresses in different shades of the one color?

Wedding Invitations

Don’t forget to use one or more of your colors on your wedding invitation and perhaps table name settings. How about this example below where the couple have used a dark red color:

Flowers

You can really go to town when it comes to your flowers, and the good thing is that they’re usually available in any color that you can possibly dream up!

Wedding Cake

The cake is another important focal point of your day, and there’s no reason why you can’t incorporate colors into it. Don’t think that they are all white, they’re pretty crazy at times these days!

5 Tips on Buying Bridesmaid Dresses

I don’t have any personal experience being a bridesmaid, or buying bridesmaid dresses (that was a formality my wedding did not have) but I’ve worked in a bridal store and have seen how desperately tragic bridesmaid dresses can be. I have a friend who has a closet full of hideous bridesmaid dresses and I am always flabbergasted that her “friends” expected her to wear those hideous monstrosities, AND made her pay for them! So, because of her, the request of one of my readers, and any future victims of heinous bridesmaid dresses, I have decided to compile a few tips.

1. Consider different body types. The problem with a lot of the ugly bridesmaid dresses I’ve seen is that they don’t suit all the girls in the party. Do you really want to stick one of your supposedly best friends (or sisters!) in a dress shape she’d never get caught dead in otherwise? No. Even if this means they won’t all be in the same dress, you’d prefer a happy bridal party than knowing your friends are going to resent you for the rest of their lives (or seek revenge. See point 5.)

2. Choose a theme, and allow some freedom. Pick a theme, and let your bridesmaid to choose something that works best for them. That could be a color, a fabric, or a style of dress. For example if you want everyone in chocolate brown, choose the fabric and allow each girl to pick the shape that best suits her. You can have some guidelines (full length, short sleeve, etc…) but this way the girls can at least choose a shape that will flatter them. Another option is to buy accessories, and let them get a dress they like (ex. you provide a red belt and corsage, everyone buys a black, knee length dress. And then, the girls might actually wear their dresses again!)

3. Allow them to personalize. If you are going to insist that they all wear the same dress (this tends only works nicely if they all have the same body type and they will all look good in the color you chose) then don’t force them to all wear the same shoes, fascinator, and jewelry. (Unless you are buying them all Tiffany’s bracelets, that goes over well.) In fact, don’t allow fascination in your wedding, full stop. They are an accessory that should be banned unless you are a burlesque star.

4. If you are being a control freak, then don’t make them pay. For anything. Some Bridezillas are not going to budge on the bridesmaid dresses, and are going to insist they all wear a burgundy satin, full length, empire waist gown. Well, if you are going to be that b***h, then at least pay. For everything.

5. You may seek revenge. If you’ve had to suffer through several weddings wearing hideous dresses, and you want to get back at them, then invite those brides to be in your party, and choose the ugliest lime green, poufy dress with matching dyed satin shoes. And, make them pay. They may not be smiling in the wedding photos, but you sure will.
